Members of the GTA Faith Alliance believe our support of Faith-based grassroots organizations is a necessary and vital means of repairing the social fabric. This can in turn restore the economic vitality in urban neighbourhoods where youth crime and violence has drastically escalated.
We endeavour to empower through education, by implementing programs and activities designed to deter at risk youths from embarking on a life of crime. These activities will include:
-
Alternative Schools
-
Computer Training Centres
-
Culinary Programs
-
Conflict Resolution ClassesTeen summits
-
Parenting skills training
-
Tutoring
-
Mentoring Programs
-
Behaviour Monitoring
-
Resume writing, interview skills, job training and placement services
-
Recreation Programs
-
Financial Planning
The GTA Faith Alliance is also a public awareness and education vehicle to motivate the community to support, promote and participate in crime prevention programs and activities. Such as:
-
Crime prevention campaigns
-
Meetings with law enforcement
-
Community Watch task forces
-
Community/Faith/school activities
-
Co-sponsorship and exhibition at various conferences on preventing crime in the community.
The role of the GTA Alliance has remained the same and will continue with your support.
Members of The Alliance continue to bring faith leaders together to discuss the challenges facing our communities as it relates to policing, violence, at-risk youth and the breakdown of the family unit.
While facilitating the discussions, we have developed an action plan designed to address these issues as a Faith community.
GTA Faith Alliance Co-Founders, Don Meredith, Keith Morrison and Bonnie Irwin has graciously taken the lead role in bringing the concerns of the community to the Toronto Police; acting as the communication link between the respective Faith groups and the community at large.
